How to get outdoor more

To get out in nature. What does that mean to you? Are you the person who gets lightheaded if you take to many breaths on fresh air while walking to work… from the parking lot? Or, are you the get out, get moving, get playing, get to doing SOMETHING you enjoy, “Out There” type of person? I say person, because gender is irrelevant. Go out, have fun, “be a kid again”, GO OUTSIDE and play!

Playing outside means several different things to a wide range of personalities. Personally, when getting out in nature, I don’t want to hear the “rest of the world”. When out in nature, I want to be in the moment, to relax and enjoy every minute. If you are like many people, you don’t want to go on a long trail if the motor doesn’t start. Then, there are people like me that very much enjoy both sides of the outdoor adventure! I like hauling ass through the woods on a motorcycle or a four-wheeler (I’m not a fan of side-by-sides yet). Although my preferred method of travel “out there” is walking, paddling, or pedaling. My theory is, “if you’re out enjoying nature, do it at a leisurely pace, be curious, explore, and enjoy the moment”. Otherwise, jump on a four stroke (two strokers are better for screaming down a trail) get the motor running, haul ass through the woods, and enjoy every moment!

Working six days a week leaves no real time to “get out there’. I am a strong advocate for the four-day work week (4 days 10 hours each), at least you will have a three-day weekend every week! And it doesn’t have to be a weekend, you can have time off any day of the week, not just the traditional weekends. Personally, when getting a 2-day weekend, I don’t get much done the first day simply because I’m enjoying a day off. By the second day, I am working on getting some things caught up that I have let pile up since my last 2-day weekend (it’s so exhausting). If anyone reading this can relate, I’m sorry you also have a job where nobody cares for your sanity.

Now for getting out more. Well, I have no idea other than taking vacation days and “disappearing” into the woods. The worst part of taking vacation time is the fact that you have to go back at some point. Don’t let that stop you! Pack up the night before and have the car or truck loaded and ready for your early departure! If you don’t know where to go on this little adventure, just pick a park within 60 miles that has plenty of room to roam either by trail or water (if you have a boat) and a spot to “pitch a tent” or hammock. Be sure to let someone know what you intend to do, “just in case”. It’s nice to know that someone has an idea where to send the search party if bad stuff happens fast. I don’t mean crazy bad, anyone can sprain an ankle or get snake bit. Stuff happens out there that we can only prepare for and try to avoid. It’s always best to have someone with you so they can drag you to safety, but that isn’t always the case, so be careful out there and have fun!
